Israel Unveils Gun-Busting Assassination Drone (Video)

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and U.S. firearms manufacturer SIG Sauer have completed a live-fire test of a drone armed with a machine gun, demonstrating a system designed to combine aerial surveillance, target identification and direct fire support for ground forces.

The companies announced the successful test on October 13, saying the FIRE STORM 250 hovered over a simulated battlefield, identified targets using an onboard camera and fired at them from different distances and altitudes. The system demonstrated single-shot and semiautomatic firing modes during the trial.

The FIRE STORM 250 combines an Israeli-made APUS 60 vertical-takeoff-and-landing quadcopter with SIG Sauer's MICROLIGHT remotely controlled weapon station and M250 light machine gun. The system is designed to operate from forward positions without a runway or dedicated aviation infrastructure.

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) et le fabricant américain d’armes à feu SIG Sauer ont réalisé un test de tir réel d' un drone armé d’une mitrailleuse, démontrant un système conçu pour combiner la surveillance aérienne, l’identification des cibles et l’appui-feu direct pour les forces terrestres.

Les compagnies ont annoncé le succès du test le 13 octobre, en disant que le FIRE STORM 250

a plané au-dessus d’un champ de bataille simulé, identifié des cibles à l’aide d’une caméra embarquée et tiré sur elles depuis différentes distances et altitudes. Le système a démontré les modes de tir à un coup et semi-automatique pendant l’essai.

Le FIRE STORM 250 combine un quadcoptère à décollage et atterrissage verticaux APUS 60 de fabrication israélienne avec la station d’armes télécommandée MICROLIGHT de SIG Sauer et une mitrailleuse légère M250. Le système est conçu pour fonctionner à partir de positions avancées sans piste ni infrastructure aéronautique dédiée.
